Govt to rehabilitate 50,000 homeless families: Sherif

BARISAL, Mar 15, 2017 (BSS)- The government has mapped out a plan to rehabilitate 50,000 homeless families building cluster villages in different areas of the country, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif said here today.

"One of the major aims of the Prime Minister is to build houses for 2.5 lakh homeless people in the country", the minister said.

He also instructed the concerned authority to find out the land for making the cluster villages.

Sherif was addressing a seminar on National Zoning Project as the chief guest at Barisal Circuit House today.

He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will build houses and ensure habitation for the homeless people free to help make Bangladesh a poverty-free country. The minister also instructed the land officials to work with utmost sincerity.

Later, he distributed laptops among ten assistant commissioners of land.

Divisional commissioner M Gaus presided over the function. It was addresses, among others, by Chairman of Land Reformation Board (secretary) Mahfujur Rahman, Additional Secretary of Land Ministry Abual Hossain, Director of National Land Zoning Project Saukat Akbar and Deputy Commissioner of Barisal Dr Gazi M Saifuzzaman.
