Govt introduces ‘Bangabandhu Nadi Padak’

DHAKA, The government has decided to introduce 'Bangabandhu Nadi Padak' (Bangabandhu River Medal) for individuals and organizations for their contributions in protecting the rivers.

The Shipping Ministry has decided to give the award for keeping the rivers clean, protecting the riverbanks from illegal occupation, preventing pollution, protecting filling up the rivers with illegal infrastructures, assisting in maintaining normal flow and ensuring multidimensional uses of rivers, said a press release here today.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given approval to the 'Bangabandhu Nadi Padak Nitimala', according to the release.

The interested persons or organizations which are involved in those activities can apply for the award through a specific form by August 4. The form could be downloaded from the websites of the ministry, district and upazila administrations.

The winners at national level will get a gold medal, Taka 75,000 and certificate while the winners at the divisional level will get a gold medal, Taka 50,000 and a certificate, the release said.

A total of three persons or organizations will get the award from the national level while eight persons or organizations from the divisional level. A national committee has been formed as per the award guidelines.

The award will be given in September of every year or on the 'World Maritime Day', the release added.
