DHAKA, Jan 24, 2017 (BSS)- State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said the government would continue to put in its efforts for speedy power production from probable sources of renewable energy.
"The cost of power production is being reduced day by day due to renewable energy," he said at a meeting here while reviewing the progress of different projects undertaken by the ministry on renewable energies like solar, air, water and power.
Urging private entrepreneurs for investing this sector, Hamid said united effort is a must in this respect for ensuring production and uses of green and clean energy.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already approved 16 projects in principle for producing 975 megawatts power from the sources of renewable energy while two power purchase agreements were signed for producing 82 megawatts power.
The state minister asked officials concerned to start process for collecting funds from International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) for expediting power from renewable energy.
The meeting discussed to announce Monpura upazilla of Bhola district as a solar energy upazilla soon.
Power secretary Dr Ahmed Kaykaus, BDB chairman Khaled Mahmud and Bangladesh Energy and power Research Council chairman M Anowarul Islam Shikder also addressed the function.
