Fresh initiatives have been taken to expand country's existing optical fiber network up to the local levels in order to facilitate high speed internet for people living at periphery levels, State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mohammad Moshiur Rahman Ranga said today.
"Base stations are being set up at all metropolitan cities, district towns and upazila headquarters to provide high speed broadband internet facilities there. Besides, a 300-km optical fiber line is also being laid out for the same purpose," he said while addressing as the chief guest at a function held at Bishwa Shahittya Kendra here.
BD Soft Incorporation, a private ICT venture, organized the function to mark its eight years of operation, said a press release.
Ranga said the present government, which is known as ICT-friendly, has been working from many fronts to provide better internet service and prevent cyber crime to ensure information security. A new monitoring system called Inter Safety Solution is also being established, he added.
Chief Executive of BD Soft Incorporation Shakil Arefin, Gazi Amzad Hossain, MP, and Kazi Rozi, MP, among others, spoke on the occasion.
