’Golden Jubilee Bangladesh Concert’ held at Madison Square Garden in New York

‘Golden Jubilee Bangladesh Concert’ was held at the world-famous Madison Square Garden (MSG) in New York, USA on Friday, marking the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s Independence and convey the potential and national image of Digital Bangladesh to the world.

This special concert was held at the initiative of the Department of Information and Communication Technology and the management of the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority.

Echoing the theme “Let the Music Speak,” popular Bangladeshi band Chirkutt performed on the same stage alongside world-famous German band Scorpions at the historic event.

Honouring Bangladesh by playing the national anthem at the beginning, the concert was joined by around 20,000 concert-goers at the world-famous venue, including many Bangladeshi expatriates and the global music lovers from different places around the world.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Information and Communication Technology Sajeeb Wazed Joy, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Members of Parliament Shamim Osman, Aparajita Haque and Nurul Amin joined the veteran Bangladeshi artiste Kaderi Kibria in the national anthem.

In his welcome remarks, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak explained the reasons for organizing the concert. The money raised from the concert would be spent on cyber security for children from poor and underdeveloped countries, and the work will be done in collaboration with UNDP, Palak said at the concert.

After that, Scorpions and Chirkutt enthralled the audiences with their popular tracks.

Sharing the excitement, Chirkutt vocalist Sharmin Sultana Sumi wrote on Facebook, “History re-made! We just performed with one of the greatest ever bands of the world “Scorpions” at Madison Square Garden at the Golden Jubilee Bangladesh Concert and tried to make our country proud. People from Scorpions and Madison Square Garden who heard us said “you guys are soulful and awesome.”

The historic ‘Concert for Bangladesh’ was arranged at the same venue on August 1, 1971. The initiative was taken by the world-famous West Bengali Sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar and legendary English rock band The Beatles guitarist George Harrison.

Along with Shankar and Harrison, other globally popular music stars such as Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Leon Russell, Ringo Starr, and Joan Baez performed in front of 40,000 people at the MSG to gain global support for Bangladesh.
