Giving Qawmi Madrasa’s recognition was PM’s commitment: Asaduzzaman

DHAKA- Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan yesterday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had earlier made a commitment to recognize Qawmi Madrasas and now she has fulfilled her commitment.

"It was her commitment and she had formed a committee in this regard a couple of years back with Hefajat Ameer Shah Ahmed Shafi as its chief. Mawlana Farid Uddin Masud and other alems (Islamic scholars) were also in this committee. Now they have reached a consensus and got the recognition," he said.

The minister came up with the observations while talking to newsmen after inaugurating a showroom of Uttaran Foundation of Bede Community in Savar this morning.

He said that recognition of Qawmi Madrasa certificates was a longstanding demand of the alems and the government just accepted the demand now.

"There is no relation of Hefajat-e-Islam with this," he said, adding that this is a demand of Qawmi Madrasa students.

Additional DIG Habibur Rahman, Superintendant of Dhaka District Police Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman and other top officials concerned were present on the occasion.
