DHAKA, Feb 6, 2017 (BSS)- The visiting delegation of Federal Parliament of Germany today called on Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, who is also the chairperson of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), at the latter's Jatiya Sangsad office here.
The delegation was comprised of Dr Hans Peter and Thorstein Frei, members of German Federal Parliament, as well as German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Thomas Prinz, said an official handout.
They discussed bilateral issues of mutual concerns that include parliamentary proceedings of Bangladesh and Germany, legislation procedures, activities of standing committees, and role of parliament in nation building activities.
Speaker Chaudhury said a total of 50 standing committees on different ministries have been formed in the Jatiya Sangsad and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has pioneered the idea to include concerned minister as merely a member of the standing committee in order to bring transparency and accountability.
She also informed the delegation about the upcoming 136th assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) scheduled to be held in Dhaka from April 1-5 this year. Speakers, deputy speakers and parliament members from 190 parliaments are expected to attend the assembly, she added.
