Freedom fighters greatest sons of soil: land minister

ISHURDI (Pabna), Feb 10, 2017 (BSS) - Language Movement Veteran and Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif today said the real freedom fighters cannot be disciples of anti-democracy elements who are enemies of the nation.

"The real freedom fighters are the greatest sons of the soil," he said speaking as chief guest at a function to distribute cheques among families of freedom fighters I the auditorium of Ishurdi Upazila Parishad here.

The cheques were issued against the money taken as contributions from the lease money of local markets for the welfare of freedom fighters.

The minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has tremendously enhanced facilities for the freedom fighters. These facilities might be curbed, if any anti-democracy and anti-liberation government assumes the office in future, he added.

Shamsur Rahman Sharif said the prime minister has gradually increased the amount of allowance for freedom fighters to Taka 10,000 from Taka 300.

This pro-liberation government is building houses for insolvent freedom fighters, he said, adding that the daughter of Bangabandhu is working relentlessly to implement his dream of a 'Sonar Bangla.'
