Former MP Abdul Kader Khan gets life term in arms case

GAIBANDHA, A court here today convicted and sentenced former Jatiya Party MP of Gaibandha1 constituency Dr. Abdul Kader Khan for life term in an arms case filed over the killing of Manjurul Islam Liton, MP.

Judge of Special Tribunal Court1 Dilip Kumar Bhoumik handed down the verdict in a crowded court in presence of the convict.

Manjurul Islam Liton, a member of parliament from Awami League, was shot at a point blank range by some miscreants at his village at Shahbaz Masterpara area under Sarbananda union of Sundarganj upazila on December 31, 2016.

After admitting at Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition the attending doctors declared him dead.

Then, Tahmid Bulbul, sister of the victim, filed a killing case with Sundarganj police station on January 01, 2017 accusing five unknown persons.

In course of time, detective police arrested former MP Abdul Kader Khan from his residence at Rahman Nagar of Bogura district town on February 21, 2017.

On February 26, he gave a confessional statement before the court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Based on the information, police conducted a raid in his house at Khanpara village under Chhaparhati union of Sundarganj upazila and seized a pistol, a magazine and six bullets used for Liton killing.

After investigation police submitted charge sheet against eight persons including Abdul Kader Khan.

After examining the witness and evidences the judge pronounced the verdict on Tuesday.

Public prosecutor M. Shafiqul Islam appeared in the case on behalf of the state while senior advocate Zahangir Alam Zinnah defended the accused.
