Five to die for murdering income tax official Taher

DHAKA, March 8, 2017 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today sentenced five people to death as it found them guilty in the case lodged over murder of former income tax official Abu Taher in 2015.

Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 sentenced Nasir, Russel Talukder, Md Rustom, Md Amir Hossain and Sohel Rana to death and four others to different jail terms.

According to the case documents, the accused led by Taher's driver Nasir entered into his Rampura home on the night of March 2, 2015, for carrying out robbery. They robbed the house, keeping Taher hostage at gunpoint and slit the vein of his right hand on their way out.

The next morning Taher's son rushed him to capital's United Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead.

Deceased's son lodged a case with Rampura police in this regard. Police on January 6, 2016, submitted charge sheet to the court against nine people including Nasir.

After examining 23 witnesses, the court today delivered the verdict.
