A five-day Jor Ijtema, congregation of Muslims, began today on the bank of the river Turag at Tongi on the outskirts of the capital.
The Jor Ijtema is being held ahead of the first phase of the Bishwa Ijtema, world congregation of the Muslims, scheduled for January 13 to 15 at the same venue, said one of the organizers Maulana Engineer M Gias Uddin Ahmed.

The local administration has taken four-tier security measures to ensure security at the ijtema venue.
A large number of police, RAB and intelligence personnel have been deployed in and around the ijtema ground.
Devotees from different parts of the country are coming to the ijtema venue.
Witnesses said over 50,000 devotees took part in the Jumma prayers at the ijtema ground today.
