At least 50 workers of a garment factory in South Salna area of the city were injured in a stampede while scrambling for exit in fear of fire at the building this morning.
Workers of the garment factory Beacon Knitwear Limited desperately tried to come out of the factory after seeing black smoke on the third floor of the ten storied building at about 9 am, police and locals sources said.
Fire fighters rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control and rescued the injured workers.
The injured were sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahamed Medical College Hospital.
Among the injured, five were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Dr Pronai Kumar Saha of the hospital.
