DHAKA, May 17, 2017 (BSS) - Lauding Bangladesh's "mesmerising" economic growth, Finaland today expressed eagerness to work with Bangladesh to enhance trade and investment between the two countries.
"The both sides need to put more substance in the relations, particularly by pursuing more engagements to enhance trade and investment between the two countries," said the newly appointed Ambassador of Finland to Bangladesh Nina Irmeli Vaskunlahti.
During a meeting with Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at the latter's office here, the Finland Ambassador expressed her government's interest to hold foreign secretary level political consultations to further strengthen bilateral relations.
She also said that she would continue to work to make Finland 'visible' to Bangladesh, foreign ministry sources said.
Foreign Minister Ali expressed satisfaction at the collaboration between the Finnish company "Wartsila", which manufactures equipment for power sector and the local Summit Group for generation of much needed electricity for the fastest growing economy of Bangladesh.
He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina realized this need early in her first term (1996-2001) and opened up power sector for private investment.
Ambassador of Finland conveyed the invitation of her Foreign Minister to Minister Ali to visit Finland.
The Ambassador, who is based in New Delhi and concurrently accredited to Bangladesh, presented her credentials to President Md. Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban yesterday.
