DHAKA, April 12, 2017 (BSS) - Family members of death-row-convict Delwar Hossain Ripon met him in Sylhet Central Jail this evening as he is believed to be hanged tonight for carrying out grenade attack on then British envoy in Bangladesh Anwar Chowdhury in 2004.
Three people died and around 70 others, including the British envoy, were injured in the attack at Hazrat Shah Jalal shrine in Sylhet on May 21, 2004.
"Twenty-five members of his family including his parents met him in jail as they were asked to come and meet Ripon for the last time," BSS Sylhet correspondent said quoting a jail official.
Ripon's family members enter the jail complex around 6.50 pm and left the complex around 8.25 pm.
Three Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (HuJI) leaders, Mufti Hannan, HuJI Bangladesh chapter chief, his accomplices Sharif Shahedul Alam alias Bipul and Delwar Hossain Ripon were sentenced to death for the monstrous crimes in 2004.
Mufti Hannan and Bipul are expected to be hanged in Kashimpur Central Jail, while Ripon is to be hanged in Sylhet very soon.
