BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday called upon all the opposition parties to unite and put aside their ‘misunderstandings’ to dislodge the Awami League government.

“The country’s economic, political and law and order situation is awful while corruption everywhere and the prices of commodities are unbearable,” he said.

Speaking at an iftar party, the BNP leader said political parties have a great responsibility to get the country out of this terrible situation.

“We have to fulfil this responsibility. We must all unite to restore human rights, people’s right to vote and give democracy an institutional shape. That is why we’re always talking about national unity,” Fakhrul observed.

Jatiya Party (Qazi Zafar), one of the components of the BNP-led 20-party alliance, arranged the iftar programme at a convention centre in the city’s Gulshan area.

The BNP leader said the political parties must force the current ‘anti-democratic’ regime to quit through a united movement.

He said their party’s aim is to establish a government and parliament through an election under a non-party neutral polls-time administration.

Fakhrul said the next government will be formed with the representatives of all parties who play a role in removing the current government.

Leaders of different opposition parties, including the 20-party alliance partners, took part in the programme.
