Ex-minister Matiur Rahman’s wife passes away

Syeda Asiya Begum, wife of ex-minister and ambassador Matiur Rahman, died at the Apollo Hospital here this morning.

She was 80.

"Asiya Begum breathed her last at the hospital at 7.20 am today after a long illness," family sources said.

She left behind her husband Motiur Rahman, the former communication minister (1987-1988) of the Ershad government, three sons and five daughters as well as a host of relatives and well wishers to mourn her death.

The body of Asiya Begum has been kept at the Apollo Hospital mortuary as her children are staying abroad.

The Namaz-e-Janaza of Asiya Begum will be held at Azimpura Boro Daira Sharif in the capital after Zohr prayers on Monday.

Later, she will be buried at her late father's family graveyard at Azimpura Boro Daira Sharif (45, Azimpur Road), the sources said.
