DHAKA, March 27, 2017 (BSS)- Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad today expressed his optimism to go to power by independently participating in the next election, asking the members of the Jatiya Chatra Samaj (JCS), a student wing of JP, to take preparation for the hustings.
"I would like to see the Jatiya Party in power again to serve the people," said Ershad while addressing a rally marking 34th founding anniversary of the Jatiya Chatra Samaj at the party's Kakrail office here.
He urged the party leaders and workers to strengthen the party in each wards of Dhaka city by undertaking door-to-door campaign.
Ershad turned down the allegation that he had usurped power on March 24 in 1984 and said the then president Abdus Sattar forced him (Ershad) to take over through proclaiming martial law.
Speaking on the occasion, Senior Co-Chairman of JP and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Begum Rawshan Ershad asked the JCS members to be vocal for freeing Bangladesh from the ills of terrorism and militancy.
Chaired by JCS President Iftekhar Ahsan Hasan, the rally was addressed, among others, by Jatiya Party Co-Chairman GM Quader, Secretary General Ruhul Amin Hawlader MP, Presidium member Quazi Feroz Rashid MP and Abu Hossen Babla.
