Eradication of extremism is key AL goal for the time: Quader

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader today made his debut in the just assumed position urging party men to keep steadfast unity under Sheikh Hasina's leadership and described preparedness for next general elections eradicating extremism as the party's most crucial task for now.

"The key agenda of ours for now is the preparedness for the party's reelection to power eradicating religious extremism," he said in a press conference at a Dhanmandi community centre near the Awami League president's political office.

He described Sheikh Hasina as the symbol of Awami League's unity saying "there could be differences of opinions in the party but Awami League would not witness any disunity" as Bangbandhu daughter Sheikh Hasina is there. "We will lead the country in its forward march as dreamt by Bangabahdu through implementation of our agendas under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's dynamic leadership," said Quader, who is also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister.

Quader said the preparedness for the next general elections began with the end of the 20th party council while the country kept its course in the track of progress to be a middle income country by 2021 under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership.

He sought the party leaders and activists to work for qualitative changes and gain more acceptances among the people in all spheres of life.

"It's a good sign for the ruling Awami League as it successfully completed the 20th national council in a disciplined manner . . . no poster or banner was visible anywhere seeking installation of anyone in any party position," he said.

Among others, reelected joint general secretaries Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Dr Dipu Moni, Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak and newly elected Abdur Rahman, AL leaders Ahmad Hossain, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Mesbahuddin Siraj, Dr Hasan Mahmud, Abdus Sattar, Dr Badiuzzaman Bhuiyan Dablu, Advocate Afjal Hossain, party's Dhaka City units leaders like AKM Rahmatullah and Shahe Alam Murad, Jubo Mahila League president Nazma Akhtar and general secretary Advocate Apu Ukil were present at the press conference.
