DHAKA, March 10, 2017 (BSS)- Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu here today said the present government has been working for ensuring equal rights for both men and women in socio-economic field by 2030.
"We would have to eradicate poverty, combat militancy and ensure gender equity to take the country ahead," he said addressing a prize giving ceremony of "Dhaka Women's Marathon 2017" as chief guest to mark the International Women's Day in city's Hathirjheel.
Director General of Bangladesh National Cadet Corps Brigadier General SM Ferdous, Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professionals Professor Dr Kolimullah and Director of East-Coast Group Dilruba Chowdhury, among others, were present.
Earlier, Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the marathon competition.
The information minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been leading the womenfolk towards the path of light of development by freeing women from the clutches of communalism and superstition.
The marathon competition will immensely contribute to building self-confidence among the women, the minister added.
Around 600 participants from across the country took part in the meet with the theme of 'Safer Dhaka for Women'.
The 10-km marathon started from Begunbari point adjacent to the FDC at Hatirjheel.
