Envoys of Spain, Maldives present credentials to President

DHAKA, May 23, 2107 (BSS) -Ambassadors designate of Spain and Maldives to Bangladesh separately presented their credentials to President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here this afternoon.

The two envoys are: Alvaro de Salas Gimenez de Azcarate of Spain and Aishath Shaan Shakir of Maldives, President's Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin told BSS after presenting the credentials.

Welcoming the ambassadors, the President said the foreign policy of "Bangladesh is friendship to all and malice to none" and it attaches importance to bilateral relations.

Expressing satisfaction over the existing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Spain in political, economic, trade and investment, cultural and education spheres, the President hoped that the bilateral relations with the Spain would further be expanded during his assignments here.

He emphasized on more or regular high-level visit between the two countries to take the existing relations to a newer height as there remains many sectors to enhance trade and business relations at present time.

Noting that Bangladesh produces world-class pharmaceuticals, textiles, ceramic products, jute and jute-made materials and hides, President Hamid told the Spanish envoy to inspire the investors of his country to invest more here.

Earlier, welcoming the ambassador of Maldives for his assignment in Bangladesh, the President called for combined initiatives between Bangladesh and Maldives to face the climate change affects as both the friendly countries have become the victims of its negative impact in many ways.

Hamid expressed his satisfaction over Bangladeshi manpower recruitment to Maldives as about 80,000 Bangladeshis are working in there right now.

The President stressed the need for sensitizing the importers of Maldives to import more high quality and world standard products including RMG, jute and leather goods, plastic items, melamine, furniture, ceramics from Bangladesh at competitive price.

The envoys told the President that they would do everything necessary to enhance bilateral cooperation with Bangladesh in the days to come.

Lauding prevailing socio-economic development of Bangladesh, the ambassadors sought all-out cooperation to their respective works in Bangladesh.

Secretaries concerned to the President were present. Earlier, on their arrival at Bangabhaban, the envoys were given guards of honour separately by a smartly turned-out contingent of the President's Guard Regiment (PGR).
