Eight held over ‘gang-rape’ in Narayanganj, Bhola

Eight people were arrested in Narayanganj and Bhola districts on Sunday for their alleged involvement in separate incidents of gang-rape.

In Narayanganj, police arrested three people over the 'gang-rape' of a housewife at Masumabad in Rupganj upazila.

The arrestees were identified as Shohor Ali, son of Jamsher; Rocky, son of Montu Miya; and his wife Farzana Begum.

According to the statement of a case field in this regard, the incident took place at noon when Farzana Begum took the victim tactfully to an empty house in the area.

Farzana, at one stage, left her there pretending that she was going to respond to the call of nature.

Taking the advantage, Shohor Ali, Rocky and another unidentified man raped the housewife in turns. Later, she went to Rupganj Police Station and filed a case over the incident.

In-charge of Bhulta police outpost Azahar Ali said, We've arrested three people immediately and produced them before a court.

A young girl was reportedly gang-raped by her 'lover' and his associates in separate places in Bhola's Charfasson upazila in intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

A team of Coast Guard arrested five people from a trawler in Buragouranga River in this connection.

The arrestees are Yusuf Hasan Sardar, 20, son of Khalil Mia, Sohel Rana Didar, 20, son of Hakim Dalal, Wasel Ahmed Shikdar, 20, son of Mokammel Shikdar, Ripon Fakir, 20, son of Ismail Fakir, and Morshed Hawladar, 35, son of Abul Kashem of South Aicha area.

Milon Kumar Ghosh, inspector (investigation) of South Aicha Police Station, said Sohel Rana had developed a lover affair with the 22-year-old girl over phone few months ago.

At one stage, when the girl sought Tk 5,000 from him as loan for treatment of her mother, he asked the girl to meet him at South Aicha on Saturday promising her to give the money.

As the girl met Sohel Rana, he along with two others took the girl to Char Kukri Mukri where they violated the girl in turns in a coconut orchard around 10pm.

Later, they took the girl to the Buragouranga River by a trawler where two other people joined the trio who raped her in the trawler till dawn, he said.

Hearing screams of the victim, a team of coast guard members reached the area and rescued the victim around 6am. They also arrested the five rapists from the trawler.

Later, the arrestees were handed over to police.

The victim filed a case against the five rapists with South Aicha Police Station.
