EC Mahbub hopes for holding free and fair polls

DHAKA, Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder today expressed his optimism that the 11th parliamentary election will be held in a free, fair and credible manner.

I'm optimistic. I hope that the upcoming polls will be held in a free, fair and credible manner. The executive and judicial magistrates and judges of electoral inquiry committees should have to work more actively, he told reporters at his office at Nirbachan Bhaban in city's Agargaon.

Mahbub said, We don't conduct the polls directly. The election is held through concerned returning officers and law enforcement agencies. High officials of law enforcement agencies are under control of the Election Commission.

Urging all concerned to obey the electoral code of conduct, the commissioner said holding of the national election is a massive task. No one including candidates, voters and lawenforcers can go beyond the law and order. Obey the electoral code of conduct to make the polls a success, he added.
