DHAKA, Jan 17, 2017 (BSS) - The E-9 ministerial meeting with the theme 'Education for the 21st century' would be held in capital on Feb 5 next.
The three day meeting would focus on a specific theme for a two-year period to discuss measures to strengthen cooperation among E-9 countries -- Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria and Pakistan-- to support themselves.
This was disclosed at the preparatory meeting of (E-9 Ministerial Meeting on Education-2030) at Bangladesh National UNESCO Commission (BNUC) with Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid in the chair.
Education 2030 provides the opportunity for E-9 countries to adjust themselves to the priorities of the new agenda, which in turn will help bridge the gaps in achieving the literacy goal in these countries.
They represent more than 60 percent of the world's population, over two-thirds of the world's illiterate adults and over half of the world's out-of-school children. Their education systems thus face similar challenges.
The E-9 Initiative is a forum for these nine high-population countries to discuss their experiences in education, exchange best practices and monitor progress on achieving Education for All (EFA).
Since its inception in 1993, the E-9 network has also become a powerful lobby for EFA and South-South cooperation.
After a threadbare discussion on progress of different committees, the education minister launched a website titled www.e9-dhaka.com to make the upcoming E-9 ministerial meeting a successes.
Education Secretary M Shorab Hossain, Acting Secretary M Alamgir and Secretary to the BNUC M Monzur Hossain attended the meeting.
