The Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) on Saturday launched round-the-clock ambulance service for its members amid the coronavirus pandemic.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury inaugurated the service at Jatiya Press Club premises. Family members DUJ members and their families would avail the service from any corner of the capital city.
Addressing the occasion, State Minister Khalid said the government is courageously tackling coronavirus situation despite limitations.
He also urged media outlet owners not to retrench journalists during the crisis.
“It is a bitter truth that those rich persons who are engaged in management of media outlets are retrenching employees even though they are donating crores of taka in other cases. It’s a matter of sorrow,” he added.
He noted that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina brought the journalists under the purview of the stimulus packages considering their situation during the pandemic.
The function was presided over by DUJ President Quddus Afrad while other journalist leaders were also present.
