DU set to celebrate Nazrul’s birth anniversary tomorrow

DHAKA, May 24, 2017 (BSS) - Dhaka University (DU) authorities have chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the 118th birth anniversary of the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on the campus tomorrow in a befitting manner.

DU teachers, students and employees led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique will gather at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla at 6:15 am and will place wreaths at the poet's mazar besides DU Central Mosque at 6:30 am, said a DU press release here today.

A memorial meeting will be held on the mazar premises with DU VC in the chair.

Besides, DU World Religions and Culture Department and Centre for

Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (CIID) will jointly bring out a rally from the Aparajeyo Bangla premises at about 9:30 am. The procession will end at the poet's mazar premises after parading main streets of the campus.

Later, a seminar titled "Nazrul's Understanding of Community and

Communalism" will be held at RC Mazumder Arts Auditorium at 11 am with the CIID Director Dr Fazrin Huda in the chair.

In observance of Nazrul's birth anniversary, DU Club will also arrange a cultural function titled "Rabindra-Nazrul Sangskritik Sandha" at 7 pm on the campus, the release added.
