The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) have chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the Martyred Intellectual Day on December 14 and the Victory Day on December 16.
The decision was taken following a meeting of university teachers with Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban here today, a DU release said.
A victory rally marking the Victory Day-2016 will be brought out at 11.00 am from Aparajeyo Bangla On December 1. The rally will end at Swadhinata Chattar on the historic Suhrawardy Udyan where the Music Department of the university will perform the "Muktir Gaan" and "Bijoyer Gaan".
However, the Martyred Intellectual Day programmes include hoisting of black flag atop main buildings, including VC's Bhaban, assemblage of students, teachers, officials and workers at Aparajeya Bangla at 6.35am and placing wreaths on the university central mosque premises' graveyard, Jagannath Hall premises' Smritisoudha, Smritisoudha of different residential areas and Mirpur Martyred Intellectual Monument.
A discussion and offering of 'Doa' to pray for eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyred intellectuals also will be held on the campus here.
Besides, the Victory Day programmes will feature hoisting of national flag atop main buildings of the university, including VC's Bhaban at 6.15 am, assemblage of students, teachers, officials and workers at Aparajeya Bangla at 6.35 am and will visit National Memorial at Savar to place wreath.
Marking the day, Teacher-Student Centre, Arts Faculty building and Curzon Hall will be illuminated. Voluntary blood donation programme will take place at TSC. Besides, screening of films, documentary and photo exhibitions will be held at different dormitories on martyred intellectuals and liberation war.
A cultural function also will be held at Teacher-Student Centre at 6.30pm on the day.
Moreover, offering of 'Doa' seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs also will be held at university central mosque and different dormitories mosques after Zohr prayers and also at different places of worships here on the day.
