The Dhaka University authorities have chalked out elaborate programmes marking the Martyred Intellectuals Day on December 14 and the Victory Day on December 16.
Bangladesh marks December 14 as Martyred Intellectuals Day to commemorate those intellectuals who were killed by Pakistani forces and their collaborators on the fag end of the 1971 Liberation War under an orchestrated plot to annihilate the intellectuals of the country.
The university's programmes of Martyred Intellectuals Day included hoisting of black flags at the university's Vice-Chancellor Bhaban and other important buildings at 6.15am, assemblage of students, teachers, officials and workers at Aparajeya Bangla at 6.30 am at Aparajeyo Bangla and placing wreaths at the graveyard on the premises of university's central mosque, Jagannath Hall premises' Smritisoudha, mausoleums at different residential areas at 6.35, a press release said.
Later they will proceed towards Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in the city's Mirpur to pay tributes to the martyred intellectuals.
A discussion will be held at the Teacher-Student Centre at 11am while special prayers will be offered at the Central Mosque and other mosques in residential halls after Johr prayers seeking peace of the souls of martyred. Special prayer will also be offered at the Jagannath Hall Upasanalay of the university.
The Victory Day programmes will feature hoisting of national flag atop main buildings of the university, including VC's Bhaban at 6.15 am, assemblage of students, teachers, officials and workers at Aparajeya Bangla at 6.30 am and proceed towards National Memorial on the city's outskirt Savar to place wreaths.
Marking the day, Teacher-Student Centre, Arts Faculty building and Curzon Hall will be illuminated. Voluntary blood donation programme will take place at TSC. Besides, screening of films, documentary and photo exhibitions will be held at different dormitories on martyred intellectuals and liberation war.
A cultural function also will be held at Teacher-Student Centre at 6.30pm on the day.
Moreover, offering of 'Doa' seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs also will be held at university central mosque and different dormitories mosques after Jumma seeking peace of the souls of martyrs and blessing and progress of the country. Prayers will also be offered at Jagannath Hall upashanalay of the university on the day.
However, on December 1, a colorful "Victory Procession" was brought out on the campus with the participation of teachers and students of the university.
