RANGPUR, Jan 23, 2017 (BSS) - Two-day programmes have been finalised to celebrate the 75th birth anniversary of Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina's husband and noted nuclear scientist Dr M A Wazed Miah here on February 15 and 16 next.
Dr Wazed Smriti Sangsad (DWSS) at a meeting at Rangpur Press Club on Sunday night finalised the programmes to celebrate Dr Wazed's birth day in a befitting manner.
Monwar Hossain, senior vice-president of DWSS and Dr Wazed's boyhood friend and a noted cultural personality, chaired the meeting.
The programmes, including drawing and hand writing competitions, poem recitation and patriotic song competitions for the children in three groups, will be held on Town Hall premises on February 15.
On February 16, leaders of the DWSS will place wreaths at the grave of Dr Wazed Miah, arrange Ziarat and offer Fateha at his village home at Laldighee Fotehpur under Pirganj upazila in the district at 9 am.
Milad and doa mahfils will be arranged and special munajat be offered at different mosque after Johr prayers seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Dr Wazed and well-being of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Sayma Wazed Putul and their other family members.
A discussion meeting on the life and deeds of Dr Wazed will be arranged at Town Hall auditorium at 6 pm on February 16 and prizes, crests and certificates will be distributed among winners of different competitions.
Talking to BSS today, general secretary of DWSS Saiful Islam Jahangir said all expenses for organising the two-day programmes would be met from personal contribution of members of the organisation.
"The students of all educational institutions and socio-cultural
organisations can participate in the competitions," he said and requested the common people to be present in the two-day programmes to celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr Wazed.
