RANGPUR - Speakers in a discussion at village Fatehpur Laldighee in Pirganj upazila today said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's husband and noted nuclear scientist Dr MA Wazed Miah served the nation selflessly.
They said Dr Wazed was a completely greedless man with noble character, human virtues and complete honesty and worked for building a technologically developed Bangladesh to immortalise ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Terming Dr Wazed as an incomparable man with excellent human qualities, they said his ideals in serving the nation selflessly would remain immortal as a source of national inspiration and the people would remember him forever.
Pirganj upazila Awami League (AL) organised the memorial discussion in celebration of the 75th birth anniversary of the nuclear scientist in his birthplace village.
President of Dr Wazed Foundation and Vice-president of district AL Chhayadat Hossain Bakul presided over the discussion.
Moderated by General Secretary of Pirganj upazila AL Tazimul Islam Shamim, Adviser of district AL Professor Nurul Amin Raja addressed the occasion as the main discussant.
Besides, Dr Wazed Smriti Sangshad (DWSS), Dr Wazed Foundation, different associate bodies of AL and sociocultural organisations celebrated the day.
The programmes included placing of wreath at the grave of Dr Wazed, distribution of 'Tobarak', offering Fateha and munajats seeking eternal peace for his departed soul and wellbeing of his other family members.
In celebration of the day, DWSS chalked out two-day programmes including drawing and hand writing competitions, poem recitation and patriotic song competitions for children held at Town Hall premises in the city on February 15.
Today on February 16, leaders of DWSS placed wreath at the grave of Dr Wazed Miah, arranged Ziarat and offered Fateha there in the morning.
President of DWSS Professor Dr Hamidul Haque Khondker, its Senior Vice-president Monwar Hossain, General Secretary Saiful Islam Jahangir, Joint Secretary Elahi Farooque with other leaders placed the wreath.
The organisation arranged milad and doa mahfils and offered special munajats at Keramotia Jam-e-Mosque in Rangpur city today seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Dr Wazed.
The DWSS will arrange a memorial discussion on the life and deeds of Dr Wazed at Town Hall auditorium in Rangpur city tonight.
Vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University Professor Dr AKM Nurun Nabi will address the discussion as the chief guest with President of DWSS Professor Dr Hamidul Haque Khondker in the chair.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Sultana Pervin and Chairman of Rangpur Zila parisahd Advocate Chhafia Khatun as special guests will address the discussion.
