Bangladesh head coach Russell Doming expressed his disappointment over the sloppy fielding of the Bangladesh fielders in the just-concluded home series against Afghanistan.

In the five matches, three ODIs and two T20Is, Bangladesh fielders dropped a total of at least nine catches that cost the hosts a lot.

“Whether it is the concentration, confidence or dealing with pressure, I am not 100 percent sure. We just have to make sure we try to improve. We make too many mistakes in the field that have cost us,” Domingo told the media after the conclusion of the series.

In the second T20I, Nasum Ahmed dropped a catch off his own bowling in the first over while defending a total of 115. And later on, Afif Hossain and Mahedi Hasan also missed two catches which seemed to be regulation ones for a fielder.

Right before the T20I series, Mahmudullah Riyad, the T20I captain of Bangladesh had to face harsh questions regarding his own sloppy catching at the outfield.

Mahmudullah dropped two catches in the three-match ODI series. In the first ODI, he left a catch of Ibrahim Zadran at the square leg area which deprived Taskin Ahmed of getting an early wicket. In the third ODI, Shoriful Islam was deprived by Mahmudullah when he missed a catch of Rahmanullah Gurbaz at fine leg. Rahmanullah eventually hit a ton in that match.

Bangladesh also missed a good amount of catches in the T20 World Cup that took place in Oman and the UAE last year.

Afghanistan managed to end the T20I series 1-1. In contrast, Bangladesh continued to play T20I in a poor manner. They now have only one win in 10 matches.

“In this format, once you lose confidence and momentum, it can easily get into a run to lose games. We need to do a lot of improvements in this particular format. We are a long way from where we need to be in this format,” Domingo added.
