Bangladesh Press Council and Nepal Press Council today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on enhancing cooperation between the journalists of the two countries for improving their professional excellence.
Bangladesh Press Council Chairman Justice Md Mamtaz Uddin and Nepal Press Council Chairman Berna Bahadur Karki signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations at the Bangladesh Press Council in the capital.
Under the MoU, the two press councils will share experience and knowledge for building capabilities of journalists by promoting qualitative media education and training facilities. At the invitation of the Bangladesh Press Council a five-member delegation of Nepal Press Council led by its chairman Berna Bahadur Karki came here on Tuesday on a five-day visit to Bangladesh.
The delegation today called on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam at his office under the ministry.
During the call on, the delegate members discussed with the state minister on various issues including bilateral relations, regional connectivity, tourism, hydroelectric power, agricultural production and prospect of exporting agro-based products in both the ways and condition of mass media.
The state minister and the Nepal Press council delegation put emphasis on people to people contact and more exchange of visits of journalists between the two countries.
The delegation later on the day also met with the senior journalists at the National Press Club to exchange views on different issues related to strengthening of media cooperation between Dhaka and Kathmandu.
During the visit, the Nepali delegation will also meet with journalist leaders and will visit some major establishments and tourist attractions in Dhaka and the port city of Chittagong.
