Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, said today that December 12 should be announced as "Information Communication Technology (ICT) Day".
The minister was speaking as chief guest at the concluding session of the "Freelancer Conference" at the Bashundhra International Convention City.
The information minister said that on this day in 2008 the commitment for a "Digital Bangladesh" was announced in the Awami League election manifesto.
"It is a red-lettered day for Bangladesh, "the minister said.
The ICT workers were the fourth estate of Bangladesh", the minister
"Farmers, expatriate workers and garments' workers were the three estates of Bangladesh and ICT workers would be the fourth, "he said.
Inu also praised the "Learning and Earning Program" but added that national and global cyber security, content in the mother tongue, accessibility to the internet were also needed." The Internet was a fundamental right and a model of democratic management", he said.
ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, speaking as special guest, also supported the idea of announcing December 12 as ICT Day.
