Death reference in 7-murder case at HC

DHAKA, Jan 22, 2017 (BSS)-The death reference in the seven-murder case in Narayanganj has been sent to the High Court (HC).

Narayanganj District and Session Judge Syed Enayet Hossain sent the death reference to the HC today, HC registrar (admin and judiciary) Md Sabbir Fayez confirmed the matter.

Earlier on January 16, the Narayanganj court sentenced deaths to 26 people including Nur Hossain, main accused in the case, sacked RAB officers Tareq Sayeed Mohammad, and MM Rana and nine others to different jail terms.

As per the law, the verdict of capital punishment given by the judicial court used to send the High Court division of the Supreme Court, which is known as death reference.

Hearing on the death reference will be held at the HC to take its approval of the capital punishment. If the HC will uphold the verdict, the accused can file appeal and for that they will get 30 days. If none of the accused files appeal, the HC will hold hearing on the death reference.

Earlier on April 27 in 2014, seven persons including councilor Nazrul Islam of Narayanganj City Corporations (NCC), Advocate Chandan Sarker, were abducted from Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road.

Bodies of six of them were recovered from the river Shitolakhya three days after the abduction and one other body was recovered from the same river the next day.
