Cuban, Sudanese GFMD delegation leader call on Mahmood Ali

Leader of the Global Forum on Migration and development (GFMD) delegation from Cuba to Bangladesh Oscar Martinez Cordoves today called on Foreign Minister A H Mahmood Ali at Elegant room of Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) here.

During the meeting held on the sidelines of the 9th GFMD Summit that began in the capital on Saturday, they discussed various aspects of bilateral issues and the potential for expanding trade and business relationship between the two countries, according to foreign ministry sources.

Mahmood Ali informed the Cuban delegation leader about different exportable of Bangladesh especially readymade garments, pharmaceuticals and healthcare services.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister mentioned the relationship between Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh MujiburRahman and Cuban leader Fidel Castro as a special one.

The minister recalled an emotional remark of Fidel Castro's about Bangabandhu, "I have not seen the Himalayas. But I have seen Sheikh Mujib. In personality and courage, this man is the Himalayas. I have thus had the experience of witnessing the Himalayas".

Castro made this remark while hugging Bangabandhu during their meeting at the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Algiers in 1973.

Oscar Martinez Cordoves appreciated for the condolence message sent by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Cuban President Raul Modesto Castro Ruz following the death of Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

Later, Sudanese Secretary General of the Secretariat of Sudanese Abroad, Ambassador Dr. Karar Altohami paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister A H Mahmood Ali this afternoon at the BICC.

During the discussion, they underscored for more collaboration in agriculture, fisheries and other areas. The Sudanese leader lauded contributions of Bangladeshi Army and Police peacekeepers in Darfur and South Sudan.
