Bangladesh's "wonder boy" cricketer Mehedi Hasan Miraz and his father Jalal Uddin have expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her initiatives for construction of a residential house for their family.
"I'm very much delighted and express my gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the generosity the prime minister has shown to us by taking initiatives for construction of a house of our family," Miraz told BSS.
He also expressed his gratitude to the countrymen for their love and affection to him.
In his instant reaction after hearing the news that the prime minister has directed the authorities concerned to construct a house for their family, Miraz broke into tears in joy, said BSS Khulna correspondent.
Miraz's father Jalal Uddin, a poor taxi driver, also expressed happiness and gratitude to Sheikh Hasina for her initiatives for constructing a house for them.
"Miraz is not now our son only, he is also a son of the whole country . . . it's now the responsibility for the nation to look after him," he said in an emotion-charged voice.
Meanwhile, Nejarat Deputy Collector (NDC) of Khulna Atiqul Islam talked to Miraz after Prime Minister's Principal Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad conveyed the prime minister's directives to Khulna Deputy Commissioner Nazmul Ahsan.
When the NDC wanted to know Miraz's choice about the place of the house to be built for them, he preferred to Khalishpur Muzgunni area in Khulna city, saying that the area would be convenient for their family as they grew up in the area.
He said there are some empty commercial-cum-residential plots of Khulna Development Authority (KDA) near Sheikh Abu Naser Hospital.
"Such a plot would be better for us if the authorities allocates it (plot)," he said.
The NDC later told Miraz their choice would be informed to the authorities concerned.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed the authorities concerned for construction of a residential house for Miraz's family.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already directed the authorities concerned for construction of the house, and accordingly her Principal Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad conveyed the directives to the deputy commissioner of Khulna," PM's Deputy Press Secretary Ashraful Alam Khokan told BSS today.
Khokan said local administration would take necessary steps for construction of the house for Miraz's family after finding out a suitable place.
Miraz, Bangladesh's latest cricket sensation, became a hero of the nation with his 12 wickets in the first Test victory over England. The 19-year-old off spinner from Khulna played the key role in levelling the just-concluded two-match Rocket Test Series against the strong English side.
Son of a poor taxi driver, Miraz took 19 English wickets, including three five-fors, in two Test matches of his debut series.
