COVID-19: New Market traders install disinfection tunnels, resume business

New Market Owners’ Association installed four disinfection tunnels as they open for business ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest festival of Muslims.

Traders resumed business nearly a month and a half after the government allowed keeping shops and shopping malls open for six hours from May 10, considering the month of Ramadan and Eid.

The Association came up with the special precaution as the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases continues to rise.

In last 24 hours until Tuesday morning, 1,251 people were newly infected and 21 more died of the virus raising the total number of cases to 25,121, said the Directorate General of Health Services.

An UNB photographer captured photos of the disinfect tunnel at the foot overbridge of New Market on Tuesday.
