A Dhaka court today asked BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to appear before it on January 9 in connection with ten cases including one of sedition.
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order deferring the date for holding hearing on charge framing in the cases.
Today was fixed for indictment hearing, but Khaleda refrained from appearing before the court and filed for time through her counsel.
Of the cases, eight are for committing subversive activities, one for sedition and another was lodged under Explosive Substance Act.
Former secretary of Supreme Court Bar Association filed the sedition case against Khaleda on January 25, 2016, while Jatrabari police filed the case under Explosive Substance Act on January 24, 2015, for hurling petrol bomb on a bus on January 23 in Katherpul area, causing burn injuries to 29 passengers. One of them later died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Eight cases were lodged against Khaleda and other leaders and activists of her party with Darussalam Police Station in 2015.
