Police recovered the half-decomposed bodies of a man and his wife from a multi-storey building in Siddhirganj area of Narayanganj on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Rabiul, son of Abu Taleb of Nilphamari district and Lucky Das, daughter of Anil Das of Bandarban district. However, on June 14, Lucky Das converted to Islam and changed her name to Ayesha Siddiqa.

Shahadat Hossain, the owner of the house, said the couple rented his flat on August 1. However, he did not ask them anything about which district they lived in or what their profession is.

As a bad smell started spreading around from their flat, other tenants of the house told me about it and later I informed the police, the house owner added.

Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Siddhirganj Police Station said they recovered the bodies from a flat of the five-storey building after being informed by the owner of the house Saturday at noon.

They might have committed suicide by drinking pesticides together, added the OC.

The bodies were sent to Narayanganj Sadar General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

However, the exact cause of death can be ascertained only after getting the autopsy report, he said.
