Country to strive for world class knowledge: Nahid

CHITTAGONG, Jan 11, 2017 (BSS) - Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today said that the country should not depend on foreign education and technology for ever rather it should work for innovating world class knowledge, education and technology.

"We should reduce dependence on importing foreign education and should be ready to export the same to other countries", he added.

The minister said this while addressing as the chief guest at an

orientation programme of the students of 2016-17 academic session at

Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) this afternoon.

Nahid said the universities of the country should not be run on

conventional education system and the authorities must bring about changes to their mindset in order to ensure global standard education.

"The universities should be made into a place of new knowledge, research and innovation rather than just a centre for attaining certificates of higher education", he commented.

He said the basic objective of the present government is to build up the new generation as the architect of modern Bangladesh so that they can

represent the country before the world.

Nahid also said the present government under the leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been able to make equal the ratio of male and female students at schools, colleges and universities.

"The present government is striving hard to spread the light of education among all equally and free the educational institutions from militancy", he added.

Terming CVASU as a model specialised university in the country, the

minister said it should contribute to preserve marine and animal resources of the country.

With CVASU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Goutam Buddha Das in the chair, the programme was addressed, among others, by former mayor and president of Chittagong city Awami League (AL) ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, secretary of the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Department of the Education Ministry Mohammad Sohrab Hossain, orientation speaker and prominent economist Prof Dr Moinul Islam, dean of Food Science and Technology Faculty Raihan Faruk, dean of Fisheries Faculty Nurul Absar Khan, proctor Goutam Kumar Debnath and Students welfare director Prof Dr Mohammad Alamgir Hossain.

Earlier, the minister inaugurated the newly built mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and two museums on Fisheries and Anatomy in CVASU.
