Contractors need updated tax certificates for large govt contracts

From now on, contractors will need to submit their updated tax certificates to qualify for contracts to be approved by the Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Wednesday informed about the decision while briefing on the outcomes of the cabinet body.

“We’ve decided that contractors have to submit their updated tax papers while filing documents to obtain any government procurement related contract,” he told reporters.

Normally, the Cabinet Committee approves government contract for procurement of above Tk 100 crore.

The Finance Minister said those who obtain government contracts are medium and large scale contractors and they have the ability to pay taxes.

“So, we want to see that their tax files are updated. Earlier the submission of tax certificates was optional, but now this has been mandatory,” he added.

He said the government believes that the new system will help increase the revenue collection.
