Child labour to be mitigated by 2021: Mujibul

MYMENSINGH, Jan 19, 2017 (BSS) -State Minister for Labour and Employment M Mujibul Huq today said child labour will be mitigated in the country by 2021.

"The new generation will not be allowed to stay in hazardous child labour," he said speaking as the chief guest at a motivational workshop on 'Child Labour Mitigation' at a local hotel in Mymensingh.

Presided over by Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner GM Saleh Uddin, the workshop was addressed by Fakhrul Imam, MP, among others, said an official release.

The state minister said it is not difficult for the government to take 12 lakh child workers out of hazardous labour as the government's capacity has increased.

The government seeks cooperation of all to attain success in this job, he said, adding that the cooperation of parents, conscious section of society, NGO and journalists is required to mitigate child labour.

The state minister said the government formulated a domestic workers protection policy in 2015 and a monitoring cell was formed as per the policy.

If needed, a law would be enacted for the protection of domestic workers, he added.

Referring to government steps for the welfare of workers, he said all workers in formal and informal sectors would be brought under provident fund facilities.

No worker will remain helpless after 2021, the state minister hoped.
