Chhatra Dal activists seal off BNP central office

DHAKA, Agitated Chhatra Dal leaders and activists

today locked the main gate of the BNP central office at Nayapaltan here,

demanding cancelation of agelimit in the party's charter.

The agitated Chhatra Dal leaders and activists gathered in front of the

BNP office after they locked its main gate at about 11 am. They also cut off

the power connectivity of the office. Some of them staged in on the ground

floor of the office building.

Former Chhatra Dal leaders Shamsuzzaman Dulu, Amanullah Aman, Asaduzzaman

Ripon, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, ABM Mosharaf Hossain, Shafiul Bari Babu

and Abdul Kader Bhuiyan, among others, rushed to the spot at about 11 am, but

failed to enter the office in protest.

Agitators demanded cancellation of the announcement of the dissolve of

Chhatra Dal committees and removing ageceiling in the party's charter for

the committees.

We sent a letter inserting our demands to the BNP acting vice chairman.

But BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi suddenly dissolved

the Chhatra Dal committees, ignoring our demands. He made mandatory that one

must be below 35 years to take place in Chhatra Dal committees. And it must

be cancelled, said Mamun Billah, vicepresident of the recently resolved

Chhatra Dal committee.

The previous committee of Chhatra Dal was annulled earlier on June 3 in a

release signed by BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

The release also added that a candidate must pass the SSC or equivalent

examinations after 2000 to be named in the Chhatra Dal Committee.
