Chattogram: Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain announced the launch of a special ‘Crush Program’ next week to combat mosquito infestation in all 41 wards of the city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, six additional hand spray machines have been acquired by the CCC to enhance mosquito control efforts. These professional-grade machines, provided by Primo Healthcare, are capable of efficiently spraying larvicide or insecticide over distances of up to 12 meters and are equipped with large capacity tanks and powerful spray systems. The machines also feature anti-vibration technology and comfortable shoulder belts for ease of use during extended operation hours.
Dr. Shahadat Hossain shared this information during a ceremony held at the city’s Tiger Pass CCC office, marking the handover of six American technology hand spray machines for spraying BTI medicine. Mayor Dr. Shahadat announced that the CCC is now utilizing the American technology larvicide BTI to prevent mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and chikungunya. This technology is noted for its effectiveness and eco-friendliness in eliminating mosquito larvae, with positive results from experimental applications. In response to sudden increases in mosquito populations due to weather changes, a comprehensive program will be launched across all city wards next week.
The program will encompass larvicide spraying, fogging, drain cleaning, waste removal, and public awareness campaigns. Mayor Dr. Shahadat emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts in each ward to control mosquito breeding. He stressed the need for citizen participation in preventing stagnant water accumulation around their homes to combat dengue and other mosquito-borne illnesses. The collective cooperation of city residents is crucial in controlling these diseases.
The event was attended by Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, Chief Accounting Officer of the City Corporation, Malaria and Mosquito Control Officer Md. Sharful Islam Mahi, and other healthcare officers.
