The cabinet today adopted separate resolutions condoling deeply the deaths of noted Indian politician and Chief Minister of the neighbouring country's Tamil Nadu state Jayalalitha and former student leader and Prime Minister's Special Assistant (media) Mahbubul Haque Shakil.
The resolutions were adopted in the weekly meeting of the cabinet held at Bangladesh Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting Cabinet Secretary M Shafiul Alam said the cabinet hailed the leadership of Jayalalitha in India since 1984 as she was elected Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for five times.
Jayalalitha who was known better as 'Biplobi Agni Kannya' and 'Amma' among the people, was a great admirer of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
"Jayalalitha had a very hearty relation with Bangladesh," the resolution said.
In the obituary reference on Shakil the cabinet recalled his contribution to the country's student politics as the organizing secretary and senior vice president of Bangladesh Chhatra League and subsequently as the assistant secretary in the sub-committee of the Awami League Central Working Committee (ALCWC).
The cabinet particularly mentioned about his involvement with media and his popular literary work including two poetry books namely - 'mon kharaper gari' and 'khero khatar pata theke'.
Shakil was an efficient organizer, cultural personality and popular
writer, the cabinet said.
