BNP taking part in city polls to make it questionable: Hanif

DHAKA Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Mahabubul Alam Hanif today said BNP is taking part in the upcoming two Dhaka city Corporations' polls slated for January 30 next to make the elections questionable.

BNP is raising questions about the (Dhaka city) elections before it takes place. They are taking part in the polls not for win, but for making the elections questionable, he told a discussion at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) as the chief guest here.

Dhaka Center of the IEB organized the discussion marking the Victory Day 2019 at the seminar room of the institution in the city with its Chairman Engineer Md Waliullah Sikder in the chair.

Hanif said the two Dhaka city corporations' elections will be held in a free, fair and neutral manner, while the government will help the Election Commission (EC) hold such a fair and credible election.

Referring to the 21 August grenade attack on an AL rally in the city in 2004 and killing of 26,000 leaders and activists during the BNP-Jamaat regime from 2001-2006, Hanif said though BNP speaks about emocracy, they carry out anti-democratic activities.

AL Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Engineer Md Abdus Sabur addressed the discussion, among others.
