DHAKA, Dec 18, 2016 (BSS) - Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said BNP should join the talks with the President over formation of the Election Commission (EC) with an open mind.
"BNP is going to Bangabhaban to attend the dialogue with the President as a mark of good intention. But, they should join the dialogue with open mind," he said while addressing a discussion as the chief guest marking the Victory Day.
Awami Swechhasebak League organized the discussion at Bangabandhu Avenue here with its president Mollah Md Abu Kawsar in the chair.
The history of Bangladesh's democracy would have been written differently, if BNP joined the dialogue in response to the call of the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina before the January 5, 2014 national polls, he opined.
Among others, AL organizing secretary, Khalid Mohammad Chowdhury, MP, vice presidents of Swechhasebak League, Nirmal Ranjan Guho and Motiur Rahman, female affairs secretary, Umme Razia Kajol, organizing secretaries, Sohel Rana Tipu and Sazzad Sakib Badsha, spoke on the occasion.
"The dialogue will not be fruitful if BNP join's it with the view of fulfilling their own interest," said Quader.
"The word of democracy doesn't suit in the lips of Begum Khaleda Zia, as BNP joined the last parliament only 45 days out of the total 169 days while the BNP chairperson joined only five days", he added.
