BNP-Jammat closed rail communication on 500km track: Sujan

Railways Minister Md. Nurul Islam Sujan has said the then BNP-Jammat government did not promote rail communication system rather closed rail movement on about 500 kilometer track across the country.

"Rail movement was closed on around 500 kilometer track out of 3000 kilometer in BNP-Jammat regime," he said at a farmers' conference at Muktomancho in the town here yesterday night as the chief guest.

The minister said rail communication on Kaunia-Chilmari and Khulna-Bagherhat routes were halted by the then BNP government.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wants to develop rail communication as the government has planned to extend rail path till Banglabandha with Siliguri of India in the days to come, he said.

The conference was addressed, among others, by central vice-president of Krishok League Abdul Latif Tarin, district Awami League general secretary Anower Sadat Samrat, Sadar Upazila chairman Amirul Islam and Municipality mayor Zakia Katun.

A large number of farmers from all the five upazilas of the district took part in it.
