BGB seizes trafficking goods worth Tk 929.45 cr in 11 months

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in separate drives in different border areas seized trafficking goods and various contraband items including yaba tablets, heroin and foreign wines worth about Taka 929.45 crore in the past 11 months.

"BGB members in separate drives, especially different frontiers, throughout the countrywide from January 1 to November 30, also arrested 1,610 people for their involvement in smuggling while 1,606 others for illegal trespassing," BGB spokesman told BSS today.

He said the border guard also prevented the attempt of 5,716 Myanmar nationals to trespass into the Bangladesh territory through Bangladesh-Myanmar frontiers in last 11 months.

The seized contraband items include 76 lakh 18 thousand 193 pieces yaba pills, 2 lakh 36 thousand 953 bottles of phensidyl, 16,492 kgs of cannabis, 2 lakh 37 thousand 554 bottles of foreign wine, 32.58 kgs of heroin, 58,065 intoxicated injections and 2 crore 114 lakh 29 thousand 519 pieces sex-stimulating tablets.

Besides, the BGB seized 62 pistols, 44 guns, 65 magazines, 246 bullets, seven electronic detonators and 552.7 kgs gunpowder during the period, he added.
