Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque today said the Bengali New Year is the indicative of secularism and Bengali nationalism.

“On this day, this spirit must be sharpened more. We want Bangladesh to raise its head high in the world. So, the honour and dignity of Bangladesh should be further enhanced by sharpening the sense of non-communalism and brotherhood,” he said.

Dr Razzaque made the remarks while virtually addressing a programme at the Bangladesh Pavilion of an international exhibition in the Netherlands, marking the Bengali New Year, a ministry press release said.

Chaired by Agriculture Secretary Md Sayedul Islam, the function was attended, among others, by additional secretaries of the ministry Md Ruhul Amin Talukder, Hasanuzzaman Kallol, Wahida Akter and Balai Krishna Hazra and Bangladesh Ambassador to the Netherlands Riaz Hamidullah.

Bangladesh is officially participating in the International Horticulture Exhibition (Floriade Expo-2022) in Almere City of the Netherlands for the first time. The six-month exhibition was inaugurated on Wednesday.

About 33 countries, including Bangladesh, are participating in the exhibition.
