DHAKA, April 6, 2017 (BSS) - Bangladesh will get design certification and construction design review soon from the US based Uptime Institute for its Tier 4 National Data Center, one of the largest Data Centers of the world that would be able to store massive amounts of digital data.
The design certification from the Uptime Institute will facilitate the activities of Digital Bangladesh in better and secured environment, said officials.
After getting review of the concept design from the Uptime Institute, the BCC, the implementing authorities of Tier 4 Data Center under ICT Division, is waiting for design certification and construction design review from the institute that certify data centers against Tier Classification system and evaluate site infrastructure, operations and strategy, said Swapan Kumar Sarker, Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC).
In line with its Digital Bangladesh vision, the government is building Tier 4 National Data Center on 20 acres of land at the Hi-Tech Park at Kaliakoir on the outskirts of Dhaka to enhance shared data center hosting capacity and support digitization and provide highly secured storage of all digital contents of the government.
The BCC Executive Director said, "After getting approval on concept design of Tier 4 Data Center from the Uptime Institute of USA and positive PSI test result from China recently, we are now waiting for design certification and construction design review soon from Uptime."
The Uptime Institute normally certifies the data centers after reviewing construction design, infrastructure development, operations and strategy, he said.
Sarker said the construction design has been sent for review when infrastructure for building Tier 4 Date Center on 20 acres of land at Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park premises is almost completed.
The BCC Executive Director said a four-member committee with local consultant visited China on 18 February for pre Shipment Inspection (PSI) test, including individual test of generator, chiller and cooling system. The team conducted a rigorous test of all the equipments.
"We received positive results on PSI test from China and have also recommended some additional improvements," he said.
Chinese companies ZTE Holding Company Limited and ZTE Corporation are lined up to build the Bangladesh's Tier 4 National Center at an estimated cost of Taka 12 billion (US$155.4m). The project is being funded by China Exim Bank.
Project Director of Tier 4 Data Center Abu Sayeed Chowdhury said the Uptime Institute consultants review 100 percent of the design documents, ensuring each subsystem among electrical, mechanical, monitoring and automation meet the fundamental concept and there are no weak links in the chain.
"The construction design of Tier 4 Data Center will cover all these things and we are hoping to get design certification and construction design review soon," he said, adding that Tier 4 National Data Center will be first of the certified data center in South Asia.
Director of Tier 3 National Data Center and Deputy Project Director Tarique M Barkatullah said the authorities will apply for operational sustainability certificate immediately after the Tier 4 National Data Center goes into operation.
"We have already started comprehensive trainings for the hired data center professionals," he added.
